It’s funny, but the weeks tended to go by fast before Becky and I decided to invest our money with Phil. But since we transferred the funds, it seems like time is going very, very slowly. I’m sure that’s because we are both counting down to the day when we see the first returns on our investment – and the more we count down, the more time seems to slow. Phil advised us that it could take a month or two to really see the share price of our chosen stock begin to rise, and that stock is in the form of an American pharmaceutical company that Phil’s advisor believes is set for big things in the latter half of this year.

Becky and I have been checking the price of that stock online every day since Phil invested in it for us, and I feel relieved that we are able to keep an eye on it regularly, but so far there has been little movement in its price. We haven’t made any money yet, although from what I can gather, we haven’t lost any either, so I guess we can’t complain. But that hasn’t stopped us both from spending an awful lot of time talking about it, and now that it’s been three weeks since we transferred the money, it feels like it is becoming the only topic of conversation in our home.

‘I think you should give him a call and just check everything’s okay,’ Becky suddenly says, interrupting the television programme that we are both watching after another long day of work.

‘Of course everything’s okay,’ I reply, keeping my eyes on the actors and actresses on-screen.

‘How do you know that?’

‘He would have called me if not.’

‘Would he?’

‘Yes.’

The silence from my wife after that suggests that she’s not so sure. I turn to her and observe how pensive she looks.

‘When did you last speak to him?’ she asks me, even though she already knows the answer, because she was the one who told me to contact him the other day.

‘Tuesday. Remember? I sent him a text asking how things were looking with the investment, and he said everything was fine, and he would have more information for me in a week or so. It hasn’t been a week yet.’

Becky nods, but doesn’t seem to be worrying any less.

‘I’ll just feel better when I know we haven’t lost all of our money,’ she confesses, and I smile because that’s a perfectly good thing to be concerned about. If I’m honest, I will feel better too, once I know that our investment is bearing fruit. But I can’t let my wife see that I’m starting to grow nervous about it, so I keep smiling and put my hand on her leg to provide a little more comfort.

‘We haven’t lost all our money, because we’ve checked the stock price, and it’s barely changed since we put our funds in. We just have to be more patient.’

We go back to concentrating on the TV
